Does anybody know if they make dual-mode panels? That is, electric conversion panels, with a water-heating exchanger behind? Would help keep the panels cool, and thus keep the roof cool, which would be a major bonus; plus it could make use of some of the energy the electric conversion isn't using.
I figure we've got enough area, between the house and the garage, that in weather like this we could probably be feeding back into the grid. And if not, it would probably be pretty close. At a /really/ rough guess, I think we could probably put 5kW or more of panel out there, a lot of which would get sun the entire day.
I need to look at what our usage is like right now.
